We get up and go downstairs for breakfast. When I say downstairs I mean actually downstairs, because our guesthouse is located on a hill about 100 meters straight up from the main road. There’s a long wooden stair case that leads up to a very uneven set of brick stairs to get to the top, which was hell when I had to carry my backpack up the first time we arrived, but now I just look at it as good exercise. I am in the islands after all, and will be in a bikini A LOT so I might as well take advantage of it.
Some of the girls go to the beach, but I stay home to do a much needed laundry. Words cannot describe how little clothing I have without some sort of stain or dirt mark on it.
When the girls come back from the beach we all arrange to go down to yet another blue lagoon on the island. I hear that there is some hiking involved, but all of my clothes are in the laundry so I throw on a dress with my bathing suit underneath so that I can swim at the lagoon. We walk about 15 minutes before reaching a tall cliff with a rope hanging down to hold onto as you climb. I can’t manage that steep a cliff in a dress, and Ilona isn’t feeling well so we decide to turn around and come back tomorrow when we have shorts. On the walk back we stop and grab some things we need from the store, where I buy a sewing kit because I have a shirt missing two buttons. The worst.
We get back to the bungalow where I fix my shirt and have a quick nap. By the time the girls have returned it’s dinner time and Ilona is feeling better so we all walk down to a buffet at a resort on the water. The best thing about this island is that it’s loaded with resorts and nice restaurants, but we are staying in a cheap little wooden cabin, so it’s the best of both worlds. The food is delicious but we all eat SO much, trying to take advantage of the buffet. Afterwards we decide to walk off some of the food, and end up over at a bar that plays movies every night from a projector. We walk in at the perfect time, as Ted is starting so we sit down to watch it. On our way home we stop at the bar with the fire show and watch it again for a bit before climbing the mountain of stairs to our bungalows.
This is one of the most chill days I’ve had in a long time, which I have mixed feelings about. Part of me feels like I should be taking advantage of where I am at all times, but I also know that I have plenty of time to do lots of cool stuff, so I take the day just to relax and catch up on the sleep that I’ve lost in the last few days.
